Dishonored is an stealth action first-person shooter (FPS) video game set in a neo-industrial world, currently under development by Arkane Studios and to be published by Bethesda Softworks. The game was released 9 October 2012 with versions for Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It has since been updated to accommodate Xbox One and Playstation 4.
Location
The game is presented in open world format. The player can roam the neo-Victorian city of Dunwall, capital of The Isles. The distant Pandyssian Continent serves as a backdrop.
Gameplay
The game is played in first-person, with an emphasis placed on stealth action and the utilization of gadgets as well as the environment to eliminate opposing forces. In the Game Informer cover story, it was mentioned that every enemy in the game (even bosses) can be neutralized non-lethally, if the player so chooses. Lead designers Harvey Smith and Raf Colantonio have described the game world as a "simulation"; if the player encounters thugs harassing an innocent passerby, they can be fought off, but the thugs themselves exist within the game world prior to the event, rather than simply spawning in at a designated time or place. If the player encounters the thugs ahead of time, they can be defeated and the mugging will never take place at all.
Corvo has access to swords, daggers, and guns, including powerful but slow pistols and muskets. His supernatural powers include the ability to freeze time for a certain period, possess any living creature, summon plague animals such as rats, and teleport short distances.
Missions
Missions in the game consist of killing or otherwise eliminating those responsible for the assassination of the Empress and Corvo's imprisonment. Each assassination is approached from a first-person perspective and allows the player to combine his or her powers and gadgets to eliminate targets with their own strategy. Improvisation and innovation define playing style.
The player has the option to move like a ghost and resist corruption, or to show no mercy and leave a path of destruction in his or her wake. Specific decisions regarding the approach for each mission will change the outcomes.
At the end of each mission, the Mission Stats are posted onscreen for the player's information and any given mission can be replayed once complete.
Supernatural Abilities
Combining the suite of supernatural abilities and weapons will open up even more ways to overcome obstacles and eliminate targets. Abilities include:
